Valentines Décor (Free Printable sign And Banner)

I decorated for Valentines around the middle of January. I know some may think I’m crazy, but here we are, two days away from Valentines Day and I’m glad I got to enjoy it since it will be over before we know it! I created the printable sign below. I love the saying. I also created the triangles with hearts in them and made a banner. And, because I can’t leave well enough alone, I put glue inside the hearts and added red glitter. Glitter makes everything better.

I used the same “Love is patient…” printable that I used last year. Click here or on the picture below to download and print.

I made these crepe paper flowers glued to balls a couple of years ago. You can see above the white part of the balls is showing. I didn’t complete the whole ball. One because it was tedious. And two because it was easier to put them in jars like this. I had planned to put something inside the jar, but then I sort of liked it just as it was.

I also finally got around to cutting out pieces of tulle and putting them on Christmas lights. I have been wanting to do this for the past two Christmases, but never had time, so I thought they would be just as cute with Valentines décor. I bought that little box at Joanne Fabric and painted it white and distressed it.

last minute gift ideas with free printable tags

I’m sure you have been just as busy as we have with the holidays fast approaching. Jess and I have some fun ideas to share with you, but finding the time to blog it is a different story. I am going to share with you a few last minute gift ideas that I have done this year.

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

Glitter Ornaments

The first idea are these DIY glitter ornaments.

Christmas Gift Ideas (5 of 15)

By now, I’m sure everyone has seen these ornaments I made last year.

DIY Glitter-Ornaments

This year, I put the glitter on the outside. It can be a bit more messy, but I think they turned out cute. The kids had fun making them too.

What you need:

- Clear Ornament

- The negative part of stickers or cut out contact paper using your Silhouette or Cricut.

- Glue (I used Martha Stewart roll on glue, but I also made them with the Pledge Floor Cleaner like last years ornaments.)

- Glitter

-  ‘Fake Snow’ for inside the ornament.

Christmas Gift Ideas (1 of 15)

Put your shape onto your ornament. Put some glue or floor cleaner on the area where you want the glitter. Pour glitter onto it and shake it off. Peel of  ‘sticker’ and you will have a glittery shape. I added some fake snow inside the clear ornament to give it more of a wintery effect. Below is a picture of the ‘sticker’ before adding glue and glitter.

Soup in a Jar with Free Printable

The second idea is soup in a jar.

Christmas Gift Ideas (6 of 15)

I’m sure you have seen lots of ‘soup in a jar’ ideas. This is just another one. But, everyone likes soup right? And when it is all prepared for you, it’s even better! I am going to direct you to the blog that I got the recipe from for the directions… Ma What’s For Dinner

I liked this one because you add crushed tomatoes, which just makes it even yummier (I know Jess would disagree, but that is ok).

I also bought a soup mug from the dollar store and added an initial in vinyl onto the mug. Sort of like I did here.  Of course these mugs would also make great gifts.

I created these printable tags for you to add to your soup in a jar.

Scent of Christmas Bags and Christmas Tiered Platter With Printable Tags

*Update-At the time I made these platters I did not realize that it says on the bottom ‘for decorative use only’. So, these may not be safe for food.  Sorry!

This last one is my favorite. I don’t know if it’s the tiered platter or the ‘Scent of Christmas’ bags that I like most!

Christmas Gift Ideas (12 of 15)

Remember the tiered platters I made last summer here?

DIY-Tiered-Platters

When I saw the blue, silver and red Christmas platters at Target for only $1.99, I knew I had to make some more platters. I still used the glass candlesticks from Walmart, but I only used one on these. I also couldn’t find a bowl to match the blue, so I bought a clear bowl and I love it!

Christmas Gift Ideas (10 of 15)

I saw these ‘Scent of Christmas’ Bags on I heart Naptime. I thought they were so cute and think they will make great neighbor gifts. Basically you are putting in oranges, cinnamon sticks, cloves and cranberries. The tags tell you how to ‘cook’ it on the stove to get the scent of Christmas in your house.

To get the recipe click here. Landee See Landee Do actually created these bags with free tags. But, there were a lot of people having problems downloading the tags. So, I created some for you.

Aren’t these so cute inside the tiered platter?I do believe they are.

Fall Inspired Décor

Over the past couple of weeks,  I have been helping two of the lovely ladies at our church office re-do our office space and get it decorated for fall!  We have been doing some painting, deep cleaning, moving furniture, tossing out old furniture, and lots of FUN stuff! And I when I say “WE” I really mean mostly THEY with a dash of me! And I really do mean FUN, I honestly really enjoy the cleaning and purging and painting and decorating process!! I especially LOVE the end result.

And yes Heather, by now, you TOTALLY know this post is coming from Jess! We recently had an email discussion where she told me she could always tell it was me posting (rather than Jenny) by the number of exclamation points and the number of times I capitalize words!!!!!

So back to our office décor, I mainly focused on making our reception area look “pretty”. The gals really wanted it to look more like fall and told me that my spring inspired pencil holder was the first thing that had to go!  I originally shared how to make this one here.

SO I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do!! I decided to make a fall version of this vase!

I originally shared the instructions for making this vase/pen holder here. But I have since then refined/ changed how I do this process. And the new way is just as easy BUT it makes the glitter actually stick and STAY on the cup!!! When I first decided to make the above vase in blue, I was using Jenny’s method for making Christmas ornaments as seen here. THEN, after making my glitter shoe re-do for Kaylee, I found the same method works AWESOME for making these vases/pen holders!!!  (Sorry for all the link references, but I wanted to explain the changes and let you see the differences for yourself and how you can do the different projects! )

So here are the supplies I needed:

DSC_6990

I found the vase at the dollar store! (SCORE!!) I had the Mod Podge on hand and the Glitter I got for 50% off with a Jo-Ann’s coupon so it was about $2 so this project only cost me a little over $3.

DSC_6993

In a plastic cup, mix together Mod Podge and glitter. I didn’t measure anything, just did a very generous amount of glitter to a good 1/4 cup or so of Podge. If in doubt, add more glitter I say!!

DSC_6996

Then begin painting! I used a foam brush and painted away! Just make sure you can’t see through the vase when you hold it up to the light.  You will see white from the glue, it won’t look as though it is completely covered in glitter but believe me, it is!

DSC_6997

Here is what mine looked like as it was drying. I let it sit overnight to dry!

DSC_7009

This is what it looked like in the morning. I just added a ribbon!

DSC_7117

And here it is on the reception counter, doing it’s job holding our Fall floral pens!  And since the glitter actually stays put, you could use it as a small vase! I haven’t tested what water does to the glue and glitter base but you can slide a clear plastic cup right inside this size vase for added protection if you wanted to use real flowers!

I’ll be sharing a different part of our Fall décor on the blog with you so stay tuned!

Flower Pot Card Holder

A good friend of mine had surgery last week. She loves flowers, so I bought her a flower pot. I planned to drop it off on her porch, but I wanted to add a card and was hoping it could be ‘attached’ somehow.

Flower Pot Card Holder

I decided to use one of the printables that I created here. I tried to think of what could hold my card. I walked into my craft room (or as my husband would say-‘his office’…mmmhhhmmm…) and the clothespins were just calling my name.

Flower Pot Gift Holder (3 of 4)

You could just use a clothespin to attach a card, but because I can’t leave ‘well enough’ alone, I decided to spruce it up a bit. If you have everything on hand, it really only take about two minutes. I painted one swipe of paint on the clothespin and while still wet added some glitter and let dry!

Flower Pot Gift Holder (4 of 4)

Isn’t it cute and simple? These would make great gifts for teacher’s too!

Flower Pot Gift Holder (2 of 4)

I love it!

Glitter Shoe Redo

My little Kaylee-Girl (5 going on 25) already has a great love in her life, SHOES!! And the more shiny, glittery, sparkly, the better!! Her FAVORITE pair of shoes for the past couple months have been a pair of silver glittered flats. She would wear them with ANYTHING, and I do mean ANYTHING!!!

Sadly, her favorite shoes have taken quite a beating as she is wearing them everywhere. And I haven’t been able to find them at Target (where I originally got them.) I think we only paid $12.99 for them, which really isn’t too bad since she literally has worn them OUT. As they started to get more scuffed up, I started to wonder if I could possibly do anything to “touch them up.” I figured I would just need more silver glitter and some glue.

So I did a little checking around on Pinterest and there were a few different ideas on Glitter shoes, some people used Mod Podge, some used Tacky Glue, some recommended spray adhesive and I decided to go with what I had on hand…

DSC_5985

Mod Podge and Glitter it is!! You can’t really tell that well since the shoes are pretty shiny but there are quite a few “bald” spots all over her once glittery shoes!

I just mixed up the Mod Podge and Glitter, (and there was no measuring or science to this, I just poured some Podge in a cup and sprinkled in lots of glitter until this is what it looked like…)

DSC_5986

Then I painted the glue mixture onto the “bald” spots and let it dry.

DSC_5988

Once it dried, I could still see through the glitter in some spots so I just repeated the process (I had saved my glue mixture JUST IN CASE by putting foil over the brush and cup) and then let it dry again and VOILA!!!  PERFECT GLITTER SHOES!!!!

DSC_6015

She was SO EXCITED!! And I didn’t do anything else to them and they are holding up quite well. I figure I can always add some more glitter and glue if I need to! But this would work great on shoes that weren’t glittered before and just got scuffed up! I think I’ll try that next!!! I like glittery shoes too! I just don’t think I can pull them off as well as my 5 year old!!

Expressions Vinyl Giveaway!

Expressions Vinyl is giving away $25 to one of our lucky readers!

I have mentioned many times before how much I love using Expressions Vinyl. They have so many different colors and types of vinyl. But, the best part is that you can purchase them in sheets for a lower price which means that you can create many, many things!

Scroll to the bottom to enter, but before you do, let me share with you some of the things I have made with their vinyl. Some of these things we have shared on this blog and others are gifts that I have made, but never shared. As I was going through all of the pictures, I was amazed at how many gifts I make using their vinyl!

Indoor & Outdoor Vinyl

I made these cute herb pots for my daughter’s teacher last year. I cut out the words ‘basil’, ‘parsley’ and ‘oregano’ using white vinyl.

Herb Plants

Remember this personalized mug? I have made quite a few of these mugs using their outdoor vinyl. And yes, you can even put it in them dishwasher. I made mugs for my kids and have put them in the dishwasher over and over for more than a year now!

vinyl mug (3 of 3)

I made this wood sign for my cousin. I painted it with chalkboard paint, then I cut out the vinyl, ‘weeks until’ and the cute onesie.

IMG_3431

Remember this sign I made last Fall? It was one of our very first posts. I needed something new for my Fall décor so I whipped up this cute sign using their brown and orange vinyl.

IMG_4478

Here is another chalkboard sign I made. I cut out the vinyl ‘days until’ as well as the flower and flip flops. We made this for my daughter’s best friend that was getting ready to go to Hawaii. They have a place over there, so she can use it again!

IMG_3435

Remember our tutorial on how to make your own glitter ornaments? Who knew these would become so popular! I used vinyl to add to these ornaments to give it a personalized touch!

Glitter Ornaments (15 of 15)

I love this sign. I made it as a gift to give at our Women’s Retreat.

T-Shirt Vinyl

I LOVE their t-shirt vinyl. It is so fun to create personalized gifts with it. I whipped up this t-shirt the night before my daughter had a Veteran’s Day Assembly. See the tutorial here.

This shirt was also for my cousin’s little boy. I saw a similar idea on Pinterest and knew I could design my own using the t-shirt vinyl.

Gifts For Max (1 of 4)

Remember these burlap pumpkin placemats? I made these using their t-shirt vinyl.

Halloween-1-2

Inkjet Printable Vinyl

And of course you probably remember this post from yesterday Printable Waterproof Vinyl Tray

Striped Frame (2 of 15)

Those are quite a few projects wouldn’t ya say? Eleven of them I made as gift for others! Of course there are more that I didn’t share with you, but those alone should give you a reason to start using vinyl! Of course you need a personalized cutter like a Cricut or Silhouette Cameo. I have had a mini Cricut for years but…

I am still holding out hope that the magical Silhouette Cameo Fairy will bring me one. I know, I mention that a lot. One can hope!

Ok…enough about my projects.

Let’s get on to the giveaway…

The above information is all 100% my opinion. I am in no way being compensated by Expressions Vinyl. I just really like them.

vOLCANOeS, TORNADOS & LAVA, OH MY! 4 SIMPLE SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE

My friend Andrea has two boys, one is a year older than my son and the other is a year younger. They have so much fun when they get together. Two years ago we made these volcanoes and they were a hit. Can you tell how cool the boys thought they were? I have so many cute pictures of this day, but I didn’t realize my camera was on a funky setting, so most of them are blurry. Sad face.

science4

We got together this week for more science fun and today I am sharing FOUR ‘recipes’ that will make your kids think you are cool.

1. MAKE YOUR OWN VOLCANO

I found this recipe on Make and Takes. This is a great site for all kinds of kids crafts. For the complete recipe click here.

IMG_3532

In a nutshell, you just mold playdoh all around a plastic water bottle (see the original recipe here to learn how to make the playdoh look gray). Let it harden/dry overnight on a cookie sheet with foil on it. Add some ‘characters’ that might be in ‘danger’ of the lava.

science5

When you are ready to make your volcano ‘explode’ just add 1/3 cup baking soda using a funnel. Add some red food coloring to the vinegar and start pouring the vinegar into the bottle. Stand back and watch the magic happen. Our cute boys were so little. Sigh.

PlumAdorable.com (2 of 3)

2. MAKE YOUR OWN LAVA LAMPS

Here are our boys this past week. Andrea’s youngest son even joined in on the fun this time since he is old enough now.

science2

I have seen a couple of lava lamps on Pinterest, but the recipe we used came from Come Together Kids (another favorite of mine).

Directions

This one is simple. All you need is cooking oil, water, food coloring, an empty water bottle, and Alka Seltzer antacid tablets.

Add vegetable oil about 2/3 of the way, then fill with water leaving about an inch of open space. Add food coloring and wait for it to break through to the bottom and color the water.

science1

Now, for the fun part.

Drop half of an Alka Seltzer (or as Andrea’s son called them the ‘magic pills’) into the bottle and watch the bubbles form.

PlumAdorable.com (1 of 5)

The boys LOVED these. They could have done it over and over again. And the cool thing is they did. My son showed his sisters as soon as they got home and then of course he had to show daddy when he got home too!

PlumAdorable.com (1 of 1)

3. HOW TO CREATE A TORNADO

science3

I LOVE this one.

I can’t seem to find where I found this recipe? I had ‘pinned’ this recipe by Ellie Moon but this is not the recipe that I had printed out. Hmm… I like to give credit where it’s due, so if I find it I will definitely let you know. We will be trying the Ellie Moon one next time though since it seems like a bit of a different ‘spin’ to this one.

All you need for this is a jar (the taller the better), a butter knife, water, vinegar, dish soap, glitter (optional) and food coloring (optional)

Directions

Fill the jar three-quarters full of water and add one teaspoon of dish soap and one teaspoon of vinegar. Then add a few drops of food coloring. We also added some glitter!

IMG_2402

Next, take a butter knife and swirl it around and around. Then pull out the knife and watch your tornado go.

PlumAdorable.com (3 of 5)

For some reason the boys thought it made it go ‘faster’ when they blew on it. So, they just kept blowing and blowing. So cute! I could have done this one over and over. It was fun to watch it twirl. I also loved this one because you could quickly do this anytime.

They are fascinated.

PlumAdorable.com (5 of 5)

4. MAKE MINI COLORED FAUX VOLCANOES

PlumAdorable.com science

I had pinned this idea from Play At Home Mom and thought it would be fun to add to our experiments since we were using all of the same stuff anyway. This experiment is basically the same as the volcanoes minus the actual volcano.

Just take clear plastic cups, add some baking soda and put a few squirts of food coloring into each glass. Then add some vinegar and watch it explode!

I didn’t get as many pictures of this one. Apparently my son thought it looked so good that he decided to taste it. He was in for a big surprise and quickly learned that vinegar and baking soda do not taste good together. I wish you could have seen his face. Winking smile

PlumAdorable.com (2 of 5)

I hope you will go out and experiment with your kiddos. It really doesn’t cost much or take that much time to gather everything.

The best part is that they will think you are an even more of a rock star mom (or dad, grandma, grandpa) than you already are!

St. Patrick’s Day Fun! 15 ideas to do with your kids.

It’s pretty clear that we like to have fun with every holiday and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. So, whether you are having a party or just looking for ideas to do with your kids, we have some fun ideas for you to celebrate St. Patty’s Day.

Last year I made my girls these shirts. Click here to see this year’s shirts as well as a download for this template. Or click here to see our burlap stenciled pillows to see how to make the shirts below.

I like to change things up a bit and keep the kids on their toes, so this year I thought it would be fun to make them this simple breakfast. This is from Thoughtfully Simple. Free printable as well.

And because my kids love any sort of treasure hunt, I found these cute printables for a treasure hunt from Oopsey Daisy.

St. patrick’s Day Bleach Pen t-shirt {2 free Svg’s}

Patty's Bleach Pen

Since our ‘love’ bleach pen t-shirts were such a big hit, I thought it would be fun to make an ‘svg’ for St. Patty’s Day. Below are two ‘svg’s for you to choose from. ‘Lucky Me Lucky You.’ and ‘Pinch Proof’. Scroll to the very bottom to download each one.

St. Patty's SVG's

I basically made these shirts the same way that I did here. Only this time I added some paint and glitter to the shamrock. Update: I originally saw this last year on Skip To My Lou. I could not for the life of me remember where I had found the idea for ‘pinch proof’ t-shirts when I posted this, but I saw it on Pinterest today. I had created my own svg with different font and my own shamrocks, but it is very similar and credit needs to be given where credit is due! So, thank you Skip To My Lou!

1. Cut out your ‘svg’ on contact paper and stick it on your shirt where you’d like it to be. Place a piece of cardboard under your shirt where the words will be. Then take your bleach pen and ‘color in’ the negative part of the saying. Let sit for anywhere from 5-30 minutes. It will depend on the fabric. It should be long enough that you can see it has started to bleach through. Also check after a few minutes to make sure the bleach made it on all the open areas. When ready, run under cold water to get off all bleach. Carefully peel off the contact paper.

St. Patty's Bleach Pen Shirt (1 of 4)

2. At this point you can wash it and leave it as is or you can add some fabric paint and glitter onto the shamrock.

St. Patty's Bleach Pen Shirt (2 of 4)

I mixed together Americana’s Foliage Green and Martha Stewart’s ‘Artichoke’ to make the color green I wanted. I added some ‘Textile Medium’ since I will be washing the shirts. Follow the directions on the bottle. Basically it’s two parts medium to one part paint.

St. Patty's Bleach Pen Shirt (4 of 4)

3. Place your shamrock on your shirt where you want it. Paint inside the shamrock. If you’d like to add glitter then sprinkle a little bit of ‘glamour dust’ right on top of the wet paint. Let it dry for a bit then shake off the excess glitter and peel off the contact paper. If you add the glitter I recommend letting it dry overnight before you wash the shirt.

We did this same technique with the paint and glitter when we made these cute burlap pillows during Christmas.

IMG_1441

If you wanted to skip the bleach pen you could make the shirt using just paint and glitter. I actually made ‘Pinch Proof’ t-shirts this way last year. I can’t believe I don’t have a better pic than this, but this pic was pre-blog. The kids were in the middle of a scavenger hunt a leprechuan left them, so I was not focused on taking pics of the their shirts. I think you can sort of get the idea from below.

IMG_9992

I also made an 8×10 printable with this same saying that I will be posting for you in the next couple of days.

Lucky You!

Scrabble Tile Pendant tutorial {Free Initial Printable}

scrabble (1 of 2)

I originally started making these for Valentine’s Day, but things got so busy that week that I never got around to posting this. So, I decided to create something fun to wear on St. Patrick’s Day.

These are very simple to make. And you can print these initials I designed and use whatever one you’d like.

scrabble (2 of 8)

What you need:

~Free ‘Initials’ printable (below)

~Glossy Accents/Diamond Glaze (found at craft stores)

~Glitter Glue (optional)

~Scrabble Tiles (can buy in bulk at craft stores)

~E-6000 Glue or Superglue

~Glue Tape Runner or Tacky Glue

~Mod Podge

~Silver Bail (found in the jewelry section at craft stores)

How to make:

1. Download and print the free printable initials below. Cut out the initials you would like to use.

2. Take a scrabble tile and line it up with the initial. You will need to cut it a bit to match it completely to the scrabble tile as they are all slightly different sizes.

3. Glue the paper onto the tile with a glue runner or tacky glue. Press it down hard so that it sticks on well.

4. If you’d like to add some glitter at this point, dab some glitter glue to embellish the shamrock or hearts.

5. Once the glitter is dry then you could Mod Podge over the paper to seal it. (I actually skipped this step.)

6. When everything is completely dry then take your glossy accents (or Diamond Glaze) and follow the directions on the bottle by putting a layer on the tile. It should not run over the edges even thought it seems like it might.

7. Once it’s dried completely add the silver bail to the back. Put it on a chain for your kiddos to wear on St. Patty’s Day or whenever they’d like!

scrabble tiles

Click here or on the picture below to download and print.

This is sized to be printed on 8.5 x11 inch paper.

For best results we recommend using a quality matte paper and printing it on an ink jet printer.

Scrabble Tile Initals

~Jenny

Hey guys! This is Jess! When I saw Jenny’s adorable Scrabble Tile Necklaces, I got really excited because I have done these before in the past and REALLY LOVE this craft! It is super easy and really cute. When I made my first one, it was at MOPS and the necklace I made was for my daughter Kaylee, she was 4 at the time. She STILL has it and treasures it (She is only 5 now, it’s not like YEARS have passed in between but for a 4 year old to hold onto something, especially my daughter who loses EVERYTHING, it is surprising that this necklace is still being worn and in its original form!). So I thought I would share it with you. And the great thing is, you can not only use Jenny’s stinkin’ ADORABLE initials that she provided but you can also use photos (granted they would have to be small, like the little proof print sheets you get at Costco or Shutterfly when you order your prints) or just use scrapbook paper and cut out a design you like! This is Kaylee’s Necklace below, I did the same steps as Jenny, just used a scrap of scrapbook paper for the butterfly and cut it to size.
